In spite of the fact, nowadays smartphones are the primary way to connect to the internet, some consider them for browsing the Internet only. However, most of us, are the main ways to communicate and chat with others. Thus, getting the fastest possible internet speed and a stable connection on your mobile devices is more important than ever.

However, that doesn’t always happen. There are lots of problems that can slow the Wi-Fi speed on your phone down. Let’s take a look at the 5 main reasons why the internet connection is so slow on your phone and how you can fix them.

1- Poor Router Position

One of the main reasons your phone’s Wi-Fi is slow is that you’ve positioned your router in the wrong place. The signal of some modern routers can have a range of up to a few hundred meters. Many physical objects in our homes can block the Wi-Fi signal, like thick walls, floors, fish tanks, doors, and even mirrors.

Fortunately, there is a simple way to test the strength of the Wi-Fi signal on your phone. Just look at the Wi-Fi icon in the top corner of the screen next to the clock. When the icon is full, you have got a strong signal. This suggests that your slow internet has a different reason. Now, when it’s empty or nearly empty, your signal is weak. This shows that your position is very far from the router.

In this case, either change the location of the router or buy a better one. In most cases, situating your wireless router somewhere in the very center of your home, such as the living room, may solve the problem for all the devices in the house. If the router has antennae, it is better to change their directions up or down depending on where you are near them.

2- Congested Wi-Fi

Another issue that makes your phone’s internet slack off could happen if you live in a crowded area or in apartment blocks, where all the routers are using the same Wi-Fi channel. Thus, it can become congested and degrade the performance of everyone.

To fix this, Wi-Fi signal analysis software, such as Wi-Fi Analyze, is a must. It can help you find an uncrowded channel and set the router to it through its settings.

3- Wi-Fi Noise

Wi-Fi is also susceptible to noise from other appliances in your home. Devices like microwaves, wireless doorbells, and cordless phones can interfere with the signal from a router running on the 2.4GHz band.

Therefore, it may be best to change the router’s band to 5.0GHz from its settings. Before you do this, though, you need to make sure all your connected devices support 5GHz. If you don’t have a dual-band router, make sure you don’t have any other devices near your router that could cause signal interference.

4. You’re Connected to a Slow Network

Before making up your mind that there is a problem with the Wi-Fi connection on your mobile phone, you must first make sure that no other devices of your family are throttling the bandwidth because their general internet use leads to a drop in the speed. For example, if some users in the same house watch YouTube videos or download some video games, this will slow the Internet speed down on your phone at the same time they are using it.

Your only option might be to subscribe to a higher internet speed if it is available. You can also set the Quality of Service (QoS) in the router settings to give priority to your devices whenever you’re in range by adding the MAC addresses of your devices to the QoS page.

5- You’re Using a Slow VPN

We all need VPNs to protect our privacy while online. These services, however, have many negative aspects, including slowing Internet speed, especially free VPN apps. On the other hand, most premium VPN providers have apps for iPhone and Android fully supported for phones and work pretty well. Above all, they offer a free trial period so you can test them out and find the perfect virtual network for you.

Keep in mind, VPN services that decelerate internet speed on your phone are too many, so it might be best to disable them temporarily and test the speed.
